Prediction:

Use what you know about the text to tell what you think might happen next in the story.

Compare and Contrast:

Tell how things are alike (compare) and how they are different (contrast).

Fact/Opinion:

Fact- Something that can be proven.

Opinion- What someone thinks or feels, this cannot be proven.

Inference:

Using clues found in the story to make an educated guess about what is happening in the story.

Sequence:

Events happen in order in a story. Words like first, second, then, next and last help us tell sequence of events.

Cause/Effect:

Cause: What makes another event happen. WHY something happens.

Effect: What happens because of another event. WHAT happens.

Main Idea:

The main idea is what a text or paragraph is mostly about and this idea is supported by details.

Summarizing:

Tell in your own words what happened in a story.
