Projet Valise: La Valise d’Hana (Étude de roman / Novel Study)

We started this morning a project to go with our first French novel study, La Valise d’Hana.

Here’s a summary of La Valise d’Hana

In March 2000, a suitcase arrived at a children’s Holocaust education center in Tokyo, Japan. On the outside, in white paint, were these words: Hana Brady, May 16, 1931, and Waisenkind – the German word for orphan.

Children who saw the suitcase on display were full of questions. Who was Hana Brady? What happened to her? They wanted Fumiko Ishioka, the center’s curator, to find the answers.

In a suspenseful journey, Fumiko searches for clues across Europe and North America. The mystery of the suitcase takes her back through seventy years, to a young Hana and her family, whose happy life in a small Czech town was turned upside down by the invasion of the Nazis.

Each student was given a book in class, but here’s a link if you want to own your copy for home https://editionshurtubise.com/livre/la-valise-d-hana-1668/

We are going to read the novel together in class for the next 3 weeks as there are many importants topics that will bring up conversations and vocabulary words we will need to research or explain.

To support the novel study, you are assigned Le Projet Valise, as presented in class today. Here’s the PDF of the assignment so you can work on it at home:
